The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

A first person account of the May 2017 iteration of AGA's monthly live music series and post-work wind down.

Looking for something to do on a Friday Night? Once a month, come spend your Friday evening at the AGA for Vibe and enjoy live music from some of Edmonton’s finest artsts, cocktails and snacks from Zinc and participate in art activities led by a featured artist or AGA educators.

Vibe occurs every third Friday of the month at the AGA. Relax with your co-workers or friends after a stressful work week. Eat, drink, listen and get inspired.

portrait art activity at Vibe

May Vibe featured singer/songwriters Ella Coyes & Eva Foote who flooded the AGA with Edmonton folk music and entertained the crowd with charming banter. After a tiring day, I attended the event with a few companions. As soon as we walked in through the doors, the music filled our ears. “It’s relaxing, it makes you feel something,” my friend said softly. More and more people filled Manning Hall, listening to music while drinking, talking and enjoying the vibe.Along with music and food, we were encouraged to join in on the fun and participate in art activities. During our visit, Edmonton-based artist Caitlin Sian Richards led a ‘Self Portrait’ activity where we were encouraged to draw ourselves using mirrors as a guide. To add to that, our pencils couldn’t leave the paper—making this self-portrait activity a fun challenge that yielded very interesting results. We all laughed as we examined our finished drawings; contemplating whether to display our portraits for all to see or to take our works of art home.

For those looking for a great after-work cocktail or a creative outlet, Vibe is certainly the event for you.

Join in on the fun and attend the next Vibe in June. Enjoy a relaxed, art-filled evening with RC Unlimited and Mallory Chipman, and participate in watercolour painting with AGA educators. Purchase your tickets online or at the door.
