Welcoming Linda Shaikh and Yonathan Sumamo to the AGA Board of Directors! At our recent AGM, Linda and Yonathan were elected to a three-year volunteer term lending their leadership, passion and commitment to the arts to the AGA board. Thank you! Learn more about them below.

Linda Shaikh

Linda is a practicing multi-media artist, exhibiting her work nationally and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pratt Institute, New York, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Calgary, with further studies at The Art Institute of Chicago, the Instituto Allende, Mexico, and the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy.

Presently she is pursuing a doctoral research study at the University of Calgary. Drawing from her community work with a marginalized population, her thesis examines the importance of art and the creative studio in an educational context.

She has taught art history, drawing, painting and photography to all age groups, from pre-school, elementary and secondary schools, community organizations, to Continuing Education at Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary. She served as a Senator on the University of Calgary Senate, chairing the Community Engagement Committee. She has also sat as a Director on several boards, including, Calgary Urban Projects, Canadians for Global Care, and most recently, served as Chair of the City of Calgary Public Art Board, Vice-Chair of the Nickle Arts Galleries and as of May 2020, the Art Gallery of Alberta’s Board of Directors.

Yonathan Sumamo

Yonathan joined the AGA’s Board of Directors on May 28, 2020, and chairs the Board’s new External Relations Committee. With a background in communications and government relations, Yonathan has over a decade of experience working in public relations, stakeholder engagement and crisis communications. In his spare time, Yonathan is an avid traveler, local food scene fan and longtime advocate of Edmonton’s arts and culture scene. He also supports the Edmonton International Film Festival’s Board of Directors.
