Announcing New Board Member Aly Sumar

FacebookTwitterPinterestShare

We are pleased to welcome Aly Sumar to the AGA Board of Directors! At our recent Annual General Meeting, Aly was elected to a three-year volunteer term lending his leadership, curiosity and experience to the AGA Board. Thank you! Learn more about Aly’s work below.

Aly is a senior executive with ATB, with experience leading and developing high calibre teams in retail banking, finance and treasury functions.

Aly began his career following his technological passion; servicing personal computer hardware and software. He also built out his emotional quotient (EQ) in service to people—everywhere from gas stations to stationery stores and coffee shops—before landing a job as an ATB customer service representative in 2000. Since joining ATB, Aly worked in frontline and leadership positions in over a dozen branches, before moving into leadership roles in finance supporting corporate banking. In 2010, Aly moved into ATB’s Treasury group. During this time, he created an enterprise capital management function to measure, report and optimize regulatory and economic capital. Five years later, Aly was promoted to the ATB executive team in the role of Senior Vice President and Treasurer, entrusted with leading the Treasury group including capital, balance sheet and liquidity accountabilities. In 2019 Aly transitioned back to everyday banking, to head up the retail markets portfolio.

Aly is an inquisitive person, excited to take on the next challenge and learn something he knows nothing about. Aly's curiosity and love of learning are evident in his pursuit of higher education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Calgary, is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers (FICB) and holds an MBA specializing in Financial Services from Dalhousie University. Currently, Aly is completing his Doctorate of Business Administration at the University of Calgary.

Welcome Aly!
