Born and educated in Switzerland, Pierre Bataillard emigrated to Canada in 1967 and now resides in the Bonnyville area.
Originally trained as a draughtsman, he has become a self-taught painter, and considers himself a ''seasonal artist'', as he takes inspiration from the local landscape in the summer, then switches to still-lifes in the wintertime.
Stemming from his training as a draughtsman, he has a love for the line, which is almost always present in his work, applied in a gestural manner. Bataillard works exclusively on paper.
Having shown across Alberta, Bataillard prefers to exhibit in public galleries, which he has done regularly since the early 1980's. His work can be found in many private collections, as well as The Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
