The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Father Douglas

Father Douglas is a member of the Religious Order of Franciscan Missionary Brothers and has completed his Fine Arts Certificate at the University Of Alberta Faculty Of Extension in Edmonton.  He was a recipient of the Harry Wohlfarth Memorial Award (U of A Faculty of Extension) in 2006 and 2011.  He also holds diplomas in Theatre Craft & Design from the Banff Centre where he was on full scholarship for four years.  Now retired, he is able to devote his complete time towards being an emerging professional artist.

He has two Public Art works on display in Edmonton.  One is a 400sq. foot stained glass mural at the Belvidere LRT Station and the second is a 40 foot long acrylic mural in Country Cookin’ Restaurant.  He enjoys working in various mediums and is fully competent in all of them.  His fondness for dogs has led him to complete several series of works on dogs and he hopes to become known and appreciated for his dog paintings even though he is encouraged by others to continue painting landscapes and still life.

His works are included in several private and public art collections including The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, the City of Edmonton and U of A Hospital.  He has taken part in numerous exhibitions in Edmonton and area as well as Calgary and area.  He currently resides in his order’s friary in Edmonton.
