Call for Submissions: AGA Comic and Zine Market

Please note: this call is now closed.

Deadline for submissions: March 25, 2023

The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is seeking submissions from Alberta artists for our second annual Comic and Zine Market. Celebrating independent publications and prints, the AGA will host makers who specialize in zines, comics, books, multiples, wearable accessories (examples: pins and T-shirts). This will be a great opportunity to showcase your work in busy downtown Edmonton and sell your original zines, comics, and multiples.

The Market will take place on May 20 and 21, 2023, from 11 am-5 pm in the main hall, a large public entry space at the AGA that will be free to the public to shop and browse. This market prioritizes artists that work in the mediums of comics, multiples, and zines and is focused on original works made by Alberta based artists. We support emerging and established artists and will prioritize diverse and unique voices in the field.

 Submission Process

Please complete the submission form by March 25, 2023. If you have any barriers to submitting online, please contact Michael Goto Magnussen at michael.goto.magnussen@youraga.ca or 780-392-2467.

If selected, you will be notified 2-3 weeks after submissions close. If you have any questions, please email Public Programs and Outreach Coordinator, Michael Goto Magnussen, at Michael.Goto.Magnussen@youraga.ca

Through this open call for submissions, a committee of AGA staff will review submissions and select the vendors for this market based on the following criteria:

*Creativity

*Originality

*Craftsmanship

We are aiming for 50% of tables to be reserved for artists from equity-seeking groups.

Once selected, vendors will need to be prepared with their own payment processing equipment and will handle their own sales. Vendors are encouraged to provide a range of products at a range of price points. The AGA will not take any portion of the proceeds from sales. However, we are charging a $75+GST vendor fee per day which includes a 6x2 table and two chairs.

Form

The AGA encourages applications from Indigenous, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, people of colour, persons with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
