Urban Ecosystems refers to Atelier3AM’s holistic approach to city-building which considers [interconnected] social, economic, and environmental metrics in producing something that is of its place. In this presentation Taymoore Balbaa will highlight a range of city-based projects including three currently under development in Edmonton. Other projects include: a new non-profit Centre for Independent Music in Toronto, a Bioclimatic K-12 school in Greece, and urban-scaled revitalization schemes in Morocco, Croatia, and Norway.

Taymoore Balbaa is a founding partner of Toronto-based architectural firm Atelier3AM. Balbaa received his Masters of Architecture from the University of Waterloo and won the RAIC Medal for his graduate thesis. In 2005 he received the Canada Council for the Arts’ Prix de Rome in Architecture for Emerging Practitioners, working and conducting research in Spain, West Africa, Greece, and Egypt. In April 2011 he received the inaugural Young Architect Award, granted by the RAIC.

This lecture is presented in partnership between the Art Gallery of Alberta and M.A.D.E. in Edmonton, with generous support from Edmonton on the Edge and City-Region Studies Centre – University of Alberta.
