The AGA is going back on the road with a lecture in Calgary. Guest-curator Mary-Beth Laviolette will speak on the subject of Alberta Mistresses of the Modern: 1935-1975. This exhibition of early women modernists, all born before the end of the First World War (1918), will highlight a selection of artists engaged with different currents of modernism.

Curator, Mary-Beth Laviolette, widens the perspective on the development of modern art in Alberta. She sheds new light on the modernist practices of ten women artists, all born before 1918. (Annora Brown, Sibyl Laubental, Thelma Manarey, Janet Mitchell, Marion Nicoll, Margaret Shelton, Helen Stadelbauer, Laura Evans Reid, Ella May Walker and Dorothy Henzell Willis.)
