Projected Film: Illusion of Movement
There are some good lines in this film! Adolfo Ruiz’s Illusion of Movement explores how the creative use of line brings static forms to life. Expressive mark-making and scribbles slowly reveal the details of human characters who are chasing and attempting to out-smart one another within a world of painted landscapes.
Interactive Camera-less Animation
Screening at 1 am
Scratch, paint and draw your way to the creation of a group film! Join local illustrator and filmmaker Adolfo Ruiz in the development of a group film. This 16mm flick will be projected in the AGA’s Manning Hall at the end of the night!
It’s yours to take home! Limited edition graphic novel created by local artist and illustrator / cartoonist Josh Holinaty!
Designer Sarah Jackson brings characters to life through live sketching and a trading card challenge that will get you talking condiments! (Yes, we said condiments)
Sarah is a freelance illustrator and designer who enjoys creating things that bring delight and whimsy to her life and to the lives of others. Amongst other work, she creates whimsical children’s books on the subjects of jam, tessellation and toast. Sarah is a Professional Member of the Graphic Designers of Canada, and is also Professionally Fabulous.
Josh J. Holinaty
Josh is an Edmonton based illustrator / cartoonist that, like many of us, was raised on Warner Bros. cartoons. He has worked with clients such as the Globe and Mail, Explore , Maisonneuve, Vue Weekly, and Transworld Snowboarding magazine to name a few, and has a tuxedo cat like that seen in many Looney Tunes cartoon shorts.
Adolfo studied art & design in Spain, England, and Canada. He currently maintains a multidisciplinary practice as a graphic designer, independent filmmaker and teacher at Grant MacEwan. His film work has shifted between animation and 16mm live-action with screenings at international film festivals and on CBC television.
Justin Der is one half of All Out DJs (Edmonton’s premiere party rockers for nearly a decade). Known for their seamless mixing, scratching and top-notch track selection, their four turntable DJ sets are definite crowd-pleasers, blending everything from Hip Hop, Electro, Baltimore Club, Mash Up, House and a few surprises in between.
While his foundation is hip-hop, funk, soul, 80’s and disco, he has the versatility, know how and skill to rock in any genre of music. He’s generally considered a crowd pleasing party rocker, and has a PHD in “making you dance.” But truly, Shortround can turn a party out!
DJ Dane Gretzky
Dane Gretzky scores. Not just in the rugged looks department, but also as a DJ, producer, promoter and ambassador of Western Canada’s club scene. A DJ since 1999, Dane MacDonald is certainly no stranger to the Edmonton music and arts game – he is currently a resident DJ at The Common, a principle and owner behind the critically acclaimed Danksoul Recordings label and a leading selector and tastemaker over at Treehouse Records on Whyte. He is a top shelf DJ, with tastes running to all the finer points in music. And as DJ, he can capably move it along from downtempo to club speed. With a vast all vinyl collection and enthusiastic at his worst, Dane is sure to set the mood right.
