New works by Edmonton artist Catherine Burgess at your AGA

For Immediate Release
July 6, 2012

Edmonton, AB (July 6/12) – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is pleased to announce the new exhibition CATHERINE BURGESS: Absence | Presence, open July 14-October 14, 2012.

This exhibition in the RBC New Works Gallery features seven new sculptural works by Catherine Burgess that have never before been publically exhibited. In Burgess’ work, disparate parts, such as a hollow steel cube or a split sphere of granite, are unified into a compelling and enigmatic whole. The sculptural works are also interplays of materiality—stone, metal and found objects—and can also be seen as studies of solids and voids. Burgess is well-known for these quiet, contemplative works that are based on thoughtful arrangements of geometric forms, simplified shapes and found objects.

The RBC New Works Gallery features new works by Alberta artists.  Initiated in 1998 and named the RBC New Works Gallery in 2008, this gallery space continues the Art Gallery of Alberta’s tradition of supporting Alberta artists.
