Keep your eye on the prize at Art on the Block on May 10!

Come to the party and take home artwork by leading Canadian artists, an exclusive vacation or tickets to the V.I.P Canadian Football Hall of Fame Induction Gala.

Edmonton, AB (May 3/13) – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) will host its 15th annual Art on the Block fundraiser, Edmonton’s premiere silent art auction and cocktail party, on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 7 pm. Tickets are only $125 and are selling quickly. Auction preview and ticket purchase are available at artontheblock.youraga.ca.

Art on the Block is the AGA’s largest fundraising event. It offers avid and aspiring art collectors a chance to take home investment-quality works of art by recognized Canadian artists, while supporting the AGA’s unique education and public programs and the ongoing presentation of engaging exhibitions. Net proceeds from ticket sales, bids, donations and sponsorships help to bring art into the lives of thousands of Albertans each year. Over 47,000 students alone have benefitted from school tours, art classes and special needs programs since the new AGA opened in 2010.

This year’s auction features more than 80 diverse artworks, donated by some of Canada’s leading artists. Among them is Kristopher Karklin, whose work is collected by Sir Elton John and is featured in the AGA’s current exhibition The News From Here: The 2013 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art. Several other artists who are in current and upcoming AGA exhibitions such as, Sherri Chaba, Chris Cran, Alysha Creighton, David Janzen, Chris Millar and Laura St. Pierre also have works up for auction. Artworks range from contemporary paintings and sculptures to rare hand-tinted Japanese photographs from the 1800s.

There are also exclusive art-inspired experiences up for auction. Guests can bid on a trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, where they will take a private tour of the world famous Hermitage museum and enjoy the ‘Stars of the White Nights Festival’. Also available are forbidden dinners on the High Level Streetcar and the Winspear Stage, along with ‘The Art of the Game’, featuring tickets to the by-invitation-only Canadian Football Hall of Fame dinner and induction gala. With reserve bids from $150 to $18,000, there is something for everyone and every budget.

This exciting auction is set in a lively atmosphere with music by DJ Jaycie Jayce from Shout Out Out Out Out, a menu prepared by Zinc Restaurant’s Executive Chef David Omar and a party-inspired lounge hosted by Hennessy VS. In a gallery filled with truly awesome people, entertainment, cocktails and gourmet bites, we appreciate how difficult it will be to remember why you chose to attend the social mixer of the season in the first place—the chance to own an incredible piece of art by a recognized Canadian artist. Will you keep your eye on the prize?

Art on the Block is made possible through the generous support of artists, commercial galleries, private collectors, organizations, donors and sponsors. Art on the Block 2013 is presented by DDB Canada.

500 people attended last year’s Art on the Block. The event raised more than $160,000.
