March 18, 2013
Edmonton, AB (March 18/13) – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is excited to host the 15th annual Art on the Block cocktail party and silent art auction mixer of the season on Friday, May 10, 2013. Early-bird tickets are on sale now until March 22, for $99/per person; a tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the purchase price.
Art on the Block is the AGA’s largest fundraising event and a unique opportunity for avid and aspiring art collectors to take home an investment-quality work of art. The auction features more than 70 works by Albertan and Canadian artists. Also up for auction are several art-inspired, big board items such as exclusive dinners, one-of-a-kind experiences and trips to unique events like Art Toronto, Toronto’s international fair of modern and contemporary art.
Proceeds from ticket sales, bids and donations support the ongoing presentation of engaging exhibitions and unique education programs at the AGA, helping bring art into the lives of thousands of Albertans each year.
This must-attend party includes lively music, a custom-inspired culinary experience prepared by Zinc Executive Chef, David Omar, and some friendly competition with fellow art-lovers—all for a good cause.
AND this year, your AGA introduces something new—a Curator’s Champagne Preview. Be one of the lucky few to get an advance look at the auction with AGA Executive Director and Chief Curator, Catherine Crowston. Enjoy a glass of bubbly as you learn about the artists who’ve donated works, and get a sneak peek at this year’s hot ticket items. Tickets for the Curator’s Champagne Preview are $40 + GST and only a limited number are available.
500 people attended last year’s Art on the Block. The event netted more than $160,000.
