May 29, 2012

Edmonton, AB (May 29/12) – Experience your Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) like never before as our popular late-night art party, Refinery, returns on Saturday, June 23, 2012.

Enjoy even more innovative performances, installations and unique art projects with our latest Refinery party, themed around the upcoming exhibition, The Automatiste Revolution: Montreal 1941-1960 and under the creative direction of Edmonton-based artist Tim Rechner.

“This installment of Refinery celebrates energetic abstract art-making and features specially commissioned works ranging from a sculptural installation to dynamic video projections,” says Rechner. “Guests will create their own personal masterpieces and add to collaborative abstract drawings. Through the impressive roster of participating artists, lively music and interactive art projects, I hope to create an electrically charged environment that captures the Automatiste spirit,” he adds.

Refinery gives guests the freedom to explore the latest Gallery exhibitions and indulge in their own creative expression through interactive, hands-on art activities.

Tim Rechner is an Edmonton-based artist who is widely-respected for his abstract paintings, which emphasize an all over compositional flow and are enforced by a skeletal framework of assertive lines. In his practice, he has employed automatic drawing, and has been inspired by artwork produced by young children – as he aspires to create similar fearless, expressive energies.  Throughout the last decade, Rechner has established himself as a leader in the Edmonton arts community.
