AGA to unveil the second work in the Manning Hall commission series: MARK CLINTBERG: Behind this lies my true desire for you

For Immediate Release
July 6, 2012

Edmonton, AB (July 6/12) – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) will unveil the second, site-specific exhibition created for Manning Hall, MARK CLINTBERG: Behind this lies my true desire for you, on July 14, 2012. This exhibition will run until December 30, 2012.

For this work, Clintberg used the AGA’s 2010 renovation and re-branding campaign, “your AGA”, as a starting point. The piece pastes a rugged wooden façade overtop one of the new walls in Manning Hall, adorned with a rough, hand-painted message written in a style that one would see on the grain elevators that once dotted Alberta’s prairie landscape. The text on the wall suggests that behind the wall itself, as well the AGA’s renovation, is an ardent desire for viewers and for their ideas and involvement. The work can also be seen as a more personal message from the artist to one specific viewer or from the reader to an unknown other. These words could be intended for you.

Initiated in the fall of 2011, the Manning Hall commission series is an ongoing project that provides unique opportunities for the AGA to support the creation and exhibition of new, site-specific works by Alberta artists.
