Your AGA receives 2012 American Architecture Award

For Immediate Release
August 3, 2012

Edmonton, AB (August 3/12) – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is pleased to announce that Randall Stout Architects has been awarded the 2012 American Architecture Award for the design of the new Art Gallery of Alberta building. Awarded by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum, the American Architecture Awards are the highest and most prestigious awards to recognize international architectural achievement and new, cutting-edge design.

AGA architect Randall Stout is honoured by this significant recognition and extends his thanks to the many Alberta supporters that made the new AGA building possible.

Stout’s design for the Art Gallery of Alberta was inspired by the forms of the aurora borealis and the Edmonton river valley – two sights familiar to most Albertans. AGA Executive Director, Catherine Crowston, congratulates Randall Stout Architects for this award and for creating a truly unique structure that is both awe-inspiring and welcoming.

An international panel of distinguished architects and educators selects the American Architecture Award winners from entries submitted from around the world. These building projects include: skyscrapers, corporate headquarters, museums, art galleries, commercial and retail buildings as well as private residences.

As part of the award recognition, the Art Gallery of Alberta will be featured in the major international travelling exhibition, The City and the World, which will open in conjunction with the Istanbul Biennial in Istanbul, Turkey this fall. Your AGA will also be featured in the publication Global Design & Urbanism, Vol. II.
