The Art of the Hunt—Will You Capture a Prize?

Early-bird tickets for the must-attend Art on the Block silent art auction and cocktail party now on sale.

Edmonton, AB (March 12/14) – The 16th annual art auction and cocktail party Art on the Block is back at the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) on Friday, May 2, 2014. This popular event is the highlight of the season and the largest fundraiser of the year for the AGA. Early-bird tickets are now on sale until Monday, March 31 for $99 per person. Tickets are available online at, in person at AGA Member and Guest Services or by phone at 780.422.6223.

This year’s Art on the Block is themed The Art of the Hunt and will feature choice tunes, delectable bites and stealthy bidding. Featuring over 80 diverse artworks by Albertan and Canadian artists, there is something for everyone, from aspiring to established art collectors. More than a dozen art-inspired items will also be featured, such as unique culinary experiences, jewellery and fashion packages and exclusive access to AGA events.

Back by popular demand! Your AGA will once again host a Curator’s Champagne Preview. Sip a glass of champagne with AGA Executive Director / Chief Curator Catherine Crowston as you get a sneak peek at this year’s must-have auction items and learn about the artists who have donated works. Tickets are $50 + GST and are limited; last year’s Curator’s Champagne Preview was a sold out event.

Proceeds from ticket sales, bids and donations support your AGA’s ongoing presentation of world-class exhibitions and engaging education programs—bringing art into the lives of thousands of Albertans each year. Charitable tax receipts will be issued following the event for a portion of the ticket price.

Nearly 600 people attended last year’s Art on the Block, which raised over $125,000.

Art on the Block 2014 is presented by Canadian Western Bank (CWB).

Art on the Block is the AGA’s largest fundraising event. It offers avid and aspiring art collectors a chance to take home investment-quality works of art by recognized Canadian artists, while supporting the AGA’s unique education and public programs and the ongoing presentation of engaging exhibitions. Net proceeds from ticket sales, bids, donations and sponsorships help to bring art into the lives of thousands of Albertans each year. Nearly 60,000 students alone have benefitted from school tours, art classes and special needs programs since the new AGA opened in 2010.

The Art Gallery of Alberta is a centre of excellence for the visual arts in Western Canada, connecting people, art and ideas. The AGA is focused on the development and presentation of original exhibitions of contemporary and historical art from Alberta, Canada and around the world. The AGA also offers a full-range of art education and public programs. Founded in 1924, the Art Gallery of Alberta maintains a collection of more than 6,000 objects and is the oldest cultural institution in Alberta. It is the only museum in the province solely dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of art and visual culture.

The Art Gallery of Alberta is a not-for-profit organization that relies on the support of its Members, donors, sponsors and government. The AGA is grateful for the generous support of the many public and private donors and sponsors who have made the AGA’s New Vision possible, as well as the ongoing support of the City of Edmonton, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Canada Council for the Arts and our Members.
