Annual silent auction fundraiser features works by more than 70 local and national artists

April 19, 2011

Edmonton, ABThe Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is excited to host the 13th annual Art on the Block cocktail party and silent art auction on Thursday, May 12, 2011.

Art on the Block is the non-profit organization’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds from the event support the ongoing presentation of exhibitions and the extensive educational programs at the AGA, helping to bring art to the lives of thousands of Albertans each year. Last year alone, the AGA hosted more than 17,000 students of all ages in its Singhmar Centre for Art Education.

The only curated art auction in Alberta, Art on the Block will set guests up with more than 70 works of art by a diverse mix of local and national artists, including Eva Bartel, Chris Millar, Leslie Poole and Laura St. Pierre. Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on a number of exciting art-inspired and big board items, such as ‘Flowers for a Year’ from The Artworks and a trip for two to the Toronto International Art Fair.

All bidding types are welcome at this must-attend party, which will include lively music by DJ Rich Bomber and DJ Blue Jay, complimentary refreshments by Zinc Catering and some friendly competition with fellow art-lovers–all for a good cause.

Nearly 500 people attended last year’s Art on the Block. The event netted more than $100,000.

Tickets for the event are $125 each or ten for the price of nine ($1125), and are available online at or by phone at 780.392.2465. A charitable tax receipt will be issued for the maximum eligible portion of the ticket price.
