Manning Hall, Art Gallery of Alberta
Free with Gallery Admission
There are many tools with which to write words and sentences of communication, such as pens and pencils. By writing poems, characters and phrases, with a brush and ink, they become an art that expresses a writer’s thoughts and feelings. The process and techniques that are required to write Japanese characters with a brush and ink is called “Shodo.” Join the Edmonton Japanese Community Association as they demonstrate Japanese calligraphy techniques during this hands-on All Day Sunday workshop!
The Edmonton Japanese Community Association is a non-profit organization serving the Japanese Canadian community and anyone who is interested in Japanese culture. The association tries to develop and support a vibrant Japanese community and to promote the awareness of Japanese heritage and culture in Canada. The Culture Programs section of the Association introduces various kinds of Japanese culture to the Edmonton area’s schools and other communities.
