<p><strong>Temporary Full-Time Student Position; Young Canada Works Grant Program</strong></p>
<p>The Art Gallery of Alberta is the oldest cultural institution in Alberta and the province&#8217;s only solely dedicated art museum. The Art Gallery of Alberta is committed to deepening the understanding of visual culture through on‑going investigations of artistic and curatorial practice, where the viewer is inspired to go beyond the end product to gain greater awareness of and appreciation for the creative process.</p>
<h3>POSITION DESCRIPTION</h3>
<p>The Education Programs Coordinator Position is a 12 week full time position beginning June 4 and ending on August 24, 2012. Reporting to the Education Programs Manager, the <strong>Education Programs Coordinator </strong>will assist in the administration, development, training and implementation of AGA School and Teacher Programs.</p>
<p>The Education Programs Coordinator will be responsible for:</p>
<ul>
<li>Researching upcoming exhibitions as they relate to Alberta Education’s Programs of Study and key Education and Interpretive goals.</li>
<li>Researching and reporting current trends in Museum Education and Art Education.</li>
<li>Developing Education Programs, including In-Gallery activities, Studio Projects, and online resources related to pertinent exhibitions for Fall-Winter 2012-2013.</li>
<li>Developing and writing training materials for AGA Education Programs.</li>
<li>Assisting in Educator and Instructor training for AGA French Programs</li>
<li>Delivery of interactive gallery tours that follow set objectives for students ages 5-18.</li>
<li>Assisting with strategic planning and the development of new initiatives in the AGA Education Department.</li>
<li>Administrative duties as needed.</li>
</ul>
<h3>QUALIFICATIONS</h3>
<p>The successful candidate for the Education Programs Coordinator position will have the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate university degree in Education, Art History, Fine Arts or a related subject. This position is only available to <strong>students returning to school in Fall 2012 full-time. </strong></li>
<li>Extensive experience working in a gallery, museum or school environment and various experiences working directly with children and youth.</li>
<li>A variety of experiences planning, developing and implementing educational programs and activities.</li>
<li>Computer literacy and extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office. Individuals with experience with Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.</li>
<li>Knowledge of the Alberta Education Programs of Study and current trends and research in Art Education.</li>
<li>Superior knowledge and extensive experience with art history and contemporary art making practices.</li>
<li>Studio art-making experience.</li>
<li>Strong written and oral communication skills. French-English Bilingual applicants are preferred. <strong></strong></li>
<li>Proven ability to take initiative, manage projects and implement strategic plans.</li>

<p><strong>Full-Time</strong></p>
<p>The <strong>Education Programs Manager</strong> is responsible for the development and administration of AGA school and studio-based learning programs. The <strong>Education Programs Manager</strong> will be able to communicate a sense of the goals of the AGA and the role it plays within its community. They will have a general knowledge of the Gallery’s collection and exhibition program, with detailed experience working with schools and education programs.</p>
<p>Duties of the <strong>Education Programs Manager</strong> will include the overall conceptual development and implementation of school and studio learning programs. This will include the hiring, training and evaluation of Gallery Educators, Art Instructors and education volunteers; the development and scripting of an annual program of exhibition-based programming for school groups (grades K-12, university and college students) and the development of studio-based learning programs for children, youth and adults. The <strong>Education Programs Manager</strong> is also responsible for related education programs that include: teacher training programs, Teachers Advisory Committee, AGA Museum School, the AGA Children’s Gallery, as well as select education-based community outreach initiatives and weekend family programs/events. As a program manager, the <strong>Education Programs Manager</strong> will develop and administer program budgets; recommend policies and procedures relating to education programming, conduct ongoing program evaluation and prepare grant applications and program reports for internal and external stakeholders.</p>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<p>The successful candidate will possess: a university degree in art history and/or art education with a strong knowledge of art history and current issues in contemporary art. Applicants must be capable of independent research and experienced in educational program development. Applicants must be strong public speakers, with a proven ability to communicate effectively, possess strong organizational and administrative skills as well as the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Knowledge of the Alberta Education Programs of Study, art education pedagogy and methodologies and previous experience working with children and youth in an educational capacity are required. French-speaking candidates preferred.</p>
