Conversation with the Artist: Alma Louise Visscher
July 2, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Located within exhibition spaces, Conversation with the Artist is an ongoing series that features informal and engaging talks between artists, curators and audience members. Join us as we discuss the works featured in the RBC New Works exhibition ALMA LOUISE VISSCHER: Cathedral Cumulus.
Alma Louise Visscher is a graduate of the University of Alberta MFA program (Drawing/Intermedia 2011) and an emerging artist based in Edmonton, AB. Her current work oscillates between drawing, installation, and sculpture – with a focus on the use of textiles. Most recently, her research has centered around intermediary spaces, surface architecture and archaic forms/structures. Through an overarching sensation of transience, her visual explorations manipulate vision and the relationship between nature and architecture to create an oneiric environment that allow the viewer to consider their own created space and to analyze the ways in which we encounter the world. Her last project was a temporary public installation for the Edmonton Arts Council’s Ramble in the Bramble. In September she will be attending a research residency at the Iceland Textile Centre to create a large scale kite.
Presented with the support of the RBC Emerging Artists Project.
